Geared Up Motorcycle Jacket Review: Moto Girl’s Valerie Jacket in Yellow

Online Store: Wind and Throttle (windandthrottle.com) Jacket: Moto Girl’s Valerie Jacket in Yellow Size: 5XL Price: $348  Scrolling through my Instagram feed, I came across Wind and Throttle’s Valerie Jacket in Yellow. The color and style immediately caught my eye. I could see myself rolling up PCH on Goldie, wearing this beautiful jacket to match perfectly. This jacket was definitely worth a closer look. As a plus-size woman, I often have issues finding great looking leather motorcycle jackets in my size. I was excited to learn that the Moto Girl brand offered jackets up to a size 5XL. I usually wear a 3XL, but taking into account that this was a European brand, I decided to go for the 5XL. Ordering online is tough, because the models almost never have curves, so it’s hard to get a feel for how the jacket is cut. I decided to roll the dice. With just a few clicks, I placed the order and prayed for a good fit. Quality The jacket arrived in just a couple of weeks and my first impression was, it’s gorgeous! The quality of this jacket is impeccable. It doesn’t feel like a “mall” leather jacket. The golden color and feel of the leather are luxurious.  It has sturdy armor in all of the impact areas - the back, shoulders, and elbows. The zippers and snaps feel sturdy and secure. I would feel confident wearing this jacket for safety.

Styling I love the style of this jacket. It’s got a distinctive distressed, retro look and comes in a few sexy colors. The yellow color is a welcome addition to the black leather look. It also comes in a beautiful red color. I love the padded stitched look of the shoulders and forearms, and the streamlined look overall. It doesn’t look bulky.

Fit Here’s where things get a bit tricky. Most brands carry up to 3XL, but it’s more of a 3XL tall, as opposed to a 3XL for curvy women. Usually, the sleeves and torso are longer, with just a few inches more room in the mid-section. What I need, is a few more inches in the hips, biceps, and breast areas, and a shorter torso length, so that the jacket is cut above my hips. The Valerie jacket is a tight fit for me. The shoulder and neck areas are particularly stiff. The rear zippers help to give my hips room. I can get it in, but it will definitely take some breaking in before I’d ride in it comfortably. I’d size up for sure. Wind and Throttle also say they may do alterations to adjust the fit, depending on your needs.

Overall The Moto Girl Valerie jacket is an eye-catching statement piece for both the runway and the road. It’s a beautiful design made of quality leather and hardware that should last for years. If you’re a plus size girl, size up one or two sizes to ensure a good fit.
